Man seriously hurt in Dartmouth bat attack

A man who was hit with a baseball bat during a fight in Dartmouth is fighting for his life in hospital.

A man who was struck with a baseball bat is fighting for his life in hospital.

The 43-year-old victim was assaulted early Monday afternoon on Portland Street in Dartmouth, police said.

Halifax Regional Police said there was a fight in a parking lot outside an apartment building, and the victim ended up with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told CBC News that the man appeared to be unresponsive.

Police said a youth was taken into custody and was being questioned at police headquarters. A woman was also taken into custody for breach of the peace, but she is not considered a suspect in the assault.

Officers remained at the scene most of the afternoon.
