An elderly man was killed in a single-car crash on Highway 102 near Elmsdale Saturday afternoon, police say.

The man's car left the highway and struck a tree shortly after 3:15 p.m., Enfield RCMP Staff Sgt. Archie Thompson said in a release. The man, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic on northbound lanes of the highway is backed up because investigators are examining the scene.

The lanes between exit 8 Elmsdale and exit 9 Milford will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Traffic is being rerouted from Highway 214 to Route 2, Thompson said.
