Police in Cape Breton have charged a licensed practical nurse with assaulting a 60-year-old resident of a home for people with disabilities.

A police spokeswoman says 54-year-old Donald Donovan of Glace Bay was charged last week with assault after an alleged incident at Braemore Home in Sydney on Aug. 18.

Mary MacNeil, the legal guardian of the resident, says police told her that the charge relates to an alleged assault of her sister, Paulette Nicholson.

The director of Braemore Home said in an email that Donovan is no longer an employee.
