'Living Room' added to top of new Halifax library
People came out to Spring Garden Road Tuesday to get a first glimpse of the new piece of the Halifax Central Library.
Construction crews raised the steel that will support a public space known as the Halifax Living Room.
"It’s one of the unique features of the building," said Wayne Duncan, an architect who is working on the project. "I just wanted to come and see it being done."
The living room is a large cantilever that will stretch over Spring Garden Road.
"It’s going to be a wonderful space up there. People are going to be able to sit in there and look up and down Spring Garden Road and have a great view of the city."
Halifax regional officials hope most of the construction work will be finished by this time next year. The new library is expected to open later in 2014.
