The people behind Leno's Stop Shop in Elmsdale are doing their part to help out Maritime birds that are starving because of deep snow and frozen ground.

On Friday, the business posted on its Facebook page that it was giving out bird seed while supplies lasted.

Staff picked up two pallets of bird seed and had some people help out with bagging the seed and giving it out to customers.

The Facebook posts have accumulated many shares, likes and comments.

Laura Roberts is the manager of the store.

"Not everybody can afford to just grab a bag of bird seed," she said.

The seed campaign has been so popular that the business had to get more seed today.
