Hundreds of health-care workers at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax have accepted a two-year contract.

The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union said the 750 members of Local 22 are getting a one per cent increase in each of the two years of the contract.

There are also improvements in vacations, standby and callback provisions, and premiums for shift and weekend work.

The union said 83 per cent voted in favour of the agreement, which expires on Oct. 31.

"We have had a tough round of negotiations and we are right around the corner from what will surely be an even tougher round next time," NSGEU president Joan Jessome said in a statement Tuesday.

Local 22 includes nurses, lab technologists, diagnostic imaging technicians and respiratory therapists.
