IWK boss says cuts will affect programs

The head of the IWK Health Centre in Halifax says a provincial government-ordered budget cut will mean changes to how it delivers programs.

The head of the IWK Health Centre in Halifax says a provincial government-ordered budget cut will mean changes to how it delivers programs.

Nova Scotia has asked its nine district health authorities and the IWK to cut spending in the next fiscal year by three per cent.

IWK president and CEO Anne McGuire said such a cut will mean trying to do more with fewer staff.

Sixty-two positions disappeared during this year's budget freeze.

McGuire said people won't be hired to fill vacancies and some of the hospitals 300 outpatient clinics may be closed or combined with others.
