Injured owl rescued on Hammonds Plains Road

An injured owl discovered by a passerby on Hammonds Plains Road in Halifax is being looked after at an animal rescue centre in Dartmouth.

An injured owl discovered by a passerby on Hammonds Plains Road in Halifax is being looked after at an animal rescue centre in Dartmouth.

The small feathered bird, thought to be a barred owl, was spotted in the middle of Hammonds Plains Road on the yellow line at around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Sackville RCMP Const. Tony Roache and Const. Brian Warnica brought the injured owl to Homeward Bound City Pound in the Burnside Industrial Park. The officers happened to be in the area and helped co-ordinate the rescue.

The owl has a broken leg and will have surgery Friday. It's being cared for at Hope For Wildlife.
