An injured red-tailed hawk is expected to make a full recovery after it was hit by a passing vehicle on Highway 101 this weekend.

RCMP said they received a call about an injured bird in distress near Landfill Road in Middle Sackville around 2:50 p.m. on Saturday.

They determined the hawk had been hit by a vehicle. Its wings were broken and it had serious head trauma.

RCMP Const. Corey Ford and Const. Stephanie Stevens wrapped the injured hawk in a jacket.

Ian Avery with the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre was then able to take the bird to be treated.

Once it recovers the hawk will be released where it was found.
