Human skull found in Middle Sackville woods

Police are investigating the discovery of a portion of human skull in woods outside Halifax.

A human skull has been found in Middle Sackville.

RCMP say surveyors working in the 3300-block of Sackville Drive found the skull on Thursday afternoon.

No other human body parts were found in the immediate area.

RCMP say they haven't yet determined who the skull belonged to or how it got there.

"There's very few houses. All I can see, actually, in the immediate area is one residential home. It's basically a dense forested area, not a lot of activity that would've been in or around the area," said Cpl. Scott MacRae.

"And if it was not probably for the work being done by the surveyors, it may not have ever been found."

The medical examiner was called to the scene and determined the bone was from a human.

Police said they are working with the medical examiner's office to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.

The investigation continues.
