HRM backyard fire sends child, adult to hospital

A child and an adult were taken to hospital Saturday after a backyard fire in the community of Williamswood, just outside of Halifax.

A child and an adult were taken to hospital with burns Saturday after a backyard fire in the community of Williamswood, just outside of Halifax.

Fire platoon Chief Scot Shaffner said emergency crews were called to the scene at about 6:30 p.m.

"At least two individuals were burned," he said.

"We treated them as best we could. One of the individuals, which I believe was a child, was forwarded into the IWK [Health Sciences Centre] and a second EHS unit was called, and the second individual was sent in as well," Shaffner said.

IWK spokeswoman Heather Wyse wouldn't discuss the child's condition.

Results of an investigation have not been released.
