Home of prostitute's alleged attacker searched

Halifax Regional Police have been searching the home of Steven Elliot Laffin, 36, who is charged with attacking a prostitute.

Halifax regional police have been searching the house of a man charged with attacking a prostitute.

Police were being tight-lipped about the search warrant, which was being used this weekend at the Weyburn Road home of Steven Elliot Laffin, 36.

Laffin is in jail in connection with an Aug. 16 incident in the Spryfield area. Police allege that a 29-year-old prostitute escaped from the trunk of a moving car on Old Sambro Road after being sexually assaulted and threatened.

Laffin faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

Sgt. Don Moser wouldn't say what police were looking for at the small bungalow. They executed the search warrant Saturday morning and were back at the house Sunday.

Nor could Moser say how how long police plan to remain on scene.

It's not the first time Laffin has been charged in a violent incident involving a prostitute. Court records show that two months ago, a charge of sexual assault with a knife was dropped against him, when the alleged victim, a sex trade worker, did not show up in court.

Meanwhile, police say their search for a missing Halifax prostitute is continuing. Nadine Taylor hasn't been seen since July 28.
