Highway 103 head-on crash kills 2

Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition after a highway collision near Chester, N.S.

Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition following a head-on collision on Highway 103 near Chester, N.S. on Saturday afternoon.

The 21-year-old man driving a Pontiac Sunfire and a 48-year-old female passenger of a Dodge Caliber were pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash hasn't been determined, but there was fog and rain at the time, just before 3 p.m.

The male driver of the Dodge was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in critical condition. 

Highway 103 was closed for several hours between Exit 7 in East River and Exit 8 in East Chester.

The victims' names have not been released, but the RCMP say the couple in the Dodge was from New Brunswick.

RCMP said the highway re-opened at 7 p.m.
