High winds cause ferry cancellations
Travellers in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador facing delays
A gale warning is causing delays for travellers in the Atlantic provinces Saturday.
All Marine Atlantic crossings between North Sydney, N.S. and Port aux Basques, N.L. have been cancelled for the day.
Environment Canada issued a warning early Saturday morning, saying seas could reach four to six metres high in the Cabot Strait in the afternoon. They are expected to subside to 3 to 4 metres Sunday.
The strong winds are also affecting travellers trying to cross between Caribou, N.S. and Wood Islands, P.E.I. All crossings on that route have been cancelled for Saturday. An official said they expect to return to normal service Sunday.
Marine Atlantic said all passengers affected by its cancellations will be contacted.
