Head-on crash claims life of man, 71, in Dartmouth
Driver of the second car taken to hospital and later released
A serious two-car crash on Main Street in Dartmouth late Monday afternoon has claimed the life of a 71-year-old man.
Witnesses told Halifax Regional Police the crash was head-on. There was only one person travelling in each vehicle.
The 17-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was taken to hospital after the crash and was later released. The driver of the other vehicle, a 71-year-old man, was taken to hospital with very serious injuries and died in hospital.
The crash shut down Main Street near Caledonia Road for hours during the supper hour.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday. The road reopened to traffic sometime after 8 p.m.
Traffic was being diverted around the crash.
Main Street was shut down in both directions between Booth and Fader streets.
