Halifax parents appeal for help on anniversary of son's slaying
One year after their son's mysterious death following a night of clubbing, a Halifax couple says they're holding out hope someone will come forward with information.
Jonathan Reader had been dancing with friends at the Pacifico nightclub in Halifax on Aug. 6, 2005. He was seen on the bar's security camera footage leaving with a woman at around 2 a.m. AT on Aug. 7.
At 4:10 a.m., a municipal worker spotted Reader lying unconscious two blocks from his home, at the intersection of Dunbrack Street and Radcliffe Drive.
He had suffered head trauma and died shortly after in hospital. Police later ruled it a homicide.
His parents, Linda and David Reader, took two days off work to mark the sombre anniversary.
"I often think he'll come in the door and ask me what's for supper," said Linda Reader.
"Losing a child is difficult. Having a child that's murdered is magnified to a degree that I can't express," her husband added.
His parents said they weren't lookingforward to talking about their son's death, but hoped it would encourage the public to speak up.
"I would ask them to rise above their silence," said David Reader.
Police are looking for the woman in the video, who is described as 19 to 20 years of age, from five feet five inches to five feet seven inches tall, with long, dark hair.
Police said she is not a suspect, but could have information that would help advance the case.
