Halifax cabbie accused of sex assault

Halifax police are investigating another sexual assault complaint against a taxi driver.

Halifax police are investigating another sexual assault complaint against a taxi driver.

A 25-year-old woman got into a vehicle early Monday morning on Grafton Street between Carmichael and Prince streets, Const. Brian Palmeter said in a release.

The woman fell asleep and when she woke up, she realized the driver was touching her, Palmeter said.

The woman was not injured and was able to get out of the vehicle, described as a green mini-van.

The woman flagged another taxi, Palmeter said, and that driver took her to meet a friend.

Police have several safety tips for people taking a cab.

  •  Make note of the company name and number on the taxi roof light.
  • Look for a taxi meter and check for the taxi driver’s license and taxi owner’s license which should be clearly displayed inside the vehicle.
  • Sit in the back of the vehicle if possible. This provides additional safety for passengers and drivers.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 490-5016.
