Gunman shot at us: Sydney women
Police have two men in custody after two women say they were shot at outside a home in Sydney.
Cape Breton Regional Police rushed to Welton Street at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Staff Sgt. Max Sehl said the women were standing outside the back of the home when they heard a gunshot.
"The females knew that it was a gun that had been shot towards them," he told CBC News.
No one was hurt.
Police picked up two men later that night. Sehl said the suspects and the women know each other, but he didn't give details.
The investigation continued Thursday. Police officers with dogs scoured the area for clues while another officer went door to door.
'Kind of scary'
Evelyn Collins heard the sirens Wednesday night but didn't realize what happened until police stopped by her house.
"It's kind of scary because of all the activity going on in Halifax and everything," Collins said. "You shudder to think that it's happening around here too."
Unlike the Sydney area, there have been a number of shootings in the Halifax Regional Municipality in the last year.
"A shot being fired at somebody within the CBRM is not a common occurence," Sehl said.
Charges against the two men are expected.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cape Breton Regional Police department or Crime Stoppers.
