Guilty plea in Antigonish party brawl
A Halifax man who was charged after a fatal New Year's Eve brawl in Antigonish was sentenced Monday.
Julian Frederick Chittick, 25, pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.
His guilty pleas came as his trial was set to begin in Nova Scotia Supreme Court. Several other charges were withdrawn.
Chittick was sentenced to two years in jail but was given credit for time already served.
Chittick was arrested after a fight at a party in Antigonish on Dec. 31, 2009 but RCMP said none of the charges were directly related to the death of Jonathan Robert Beaton.
