Glace Bay, N.S. fire crews kept busy
Firefighters in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia dealt with two major fires over the long weekend.
Glace Bay Fire Chief Jim Taylor said the weekend began with a blaze ripping through a home on Brookside Street early Saturday morning.
"The first fire was extremely bad. When we arrived the flame was coming out of all the windows, doors, through the side of the building and through the roof, and as a result of the fire the dwelling was not safe to remain standing," said Taylor.
Backhoes were used to knock the home down, Taylor said.
The second fire on Sunday morning destroyed a single story home on Victoria Lane.
No one was hurt in either fire. Taylor said it appears both were likely electrical in origin.
According to Taylor, Glace Bay has more fires per capita than any other community in Nova Scotia. He said the majority are caused by arson.
