Police are looking for links between a fire at an abandoned building and another at a nearby school in Fletchers Lake.

A fire destroyed an A-frame building at the lake near Halifax early Tuesday. No one was hurt.

Robert Perkins watched the raging fire from his home across the lake.

"The flames were very, very high," he told CBC News. "The flames went straight to the top like a teepee."

Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze, but RCMP have deemed it suspicious.

For one thing, the building was abandoned and had been vandalized before. But there was also a fire at a nearby school at about the same time.

The principal of Holland Road Elementary School discovered burned papers near a back door Tuesday morning.

RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae said both fires could be the work of vandals.

"We're not going to tolerate any senseless damage," he said. "A lot of resources are tied up fighting fires."

No one was hurt in the fire outside the school. There was no serious damage to building.
