A fire ripped through a Halifax building Wednesday night.

A fire ripped through a Halifax apartment building Wednesday night.

The blaze started next door to the Southend Diner on the corner of Barrington and Kent streets at 10 p.m. and police shut down the streets while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

They contained the blaze, but the diner was damaged.

There was no word if anyone was in the building at the time of the fire or on the amount of damage. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
