A person crossing Barrington Street in Halifax Friday night was hit by car, with no one in it.

Halifax police say it appears a parked car was left in gear on Spring Garden Road near Brunswick Street and rolled.

After hitting the pedestrian, who was not badly hurt, the car smashed into a light pole.

Police say when the owner of the vehicle returned to find the empty parking spot, he assumed it was stolen, before realizing what actually happened.
