Ella, Owen top baby names in Nova Scotia

Expect a few Ellas and Owens in school in a few years, because they were the top baby names in the province in 2010.

The two names were the most popular for babies born in Nova Scotia last year, the Registry of Vital Statistics announced Wednesday.

There were 61 girls named Ella and 77 boys named Owen.

The other top names for girls include:

Michelle MacFarlane, deputy registrar general of vital statistics, said classic names have been popular for several years. Many such as Emily, Sarah and Jacob, were on the list 10 years ago.

There were 8,784 babies born in the province last year, down from 8,896 in 2009.
