Driver swerves into woods after trying to evade police

Police in Nova Scotia say a driver accused of stealing a truck ended up stuck in the woods after trying to evade police on Saturday.

Police in Nova Scotia say a driver accused of stealing a truck ended up stuck in the woods after trying to evade police on Saturday.

RCMP Const. Ted Munro said they received two tips, one of a drunk driver, the other a stolen vehicle around 3:30 p.m.

He said when officers spotted the truck the driver took off.

"When he attempted to turn around to stop the vehicle the vehicle immediately fled at a high rate speed. Our investigators followed the vehicle at a distance," said Munro.

When officers caught up to the vehicle the driver swerved into a wooded area and eventually got stuck in the area of Jungle Road and River Road in Lunenburg County.

The 26-year-old driver from Yarmouth is facing drunk driving and a stolen vehicle charges.

He is now in police custody.

No one was hurt.

Police said they believe the truck was stolen in Pubnico.
