Dead man found after Cheticamp fire

RCMP say a man died in a fire at an autobody shop in Cheticamp on Thursday.

The death of a man found inside a burning autobody shop in Cheticamp has been deemed an accident.

Firefighters were called to Larade's Tire Shop just before 9 p.m. Thursday. RCMP said the body of a man was found inside.

Fire officials say the man who died was a mechanic at the shop.

Wendy Gallant, who lives just a few doors down from the garage, said the victim was in his early 50s and he was well-liked.

"He's going to be sadly missed and his sense of humor because he never had a cross word, never, from what I know of him, and I'm not even a really close friend. Every time we went there he had a sense of humour or a smile on his face and willing to help in any way he can."

Cheticamp fire Chief Tommy Chiasson said the man was found next to his car.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, but RCMP said there was no evidence of an explosion.

The fire marshal said it was an accidental death.

The man's name has not been released and an autopsy is planned.
