The death of a woman whose body was found in a Dartmouth home Friday has been ruled a homicide.

Police were called to 59 Jackson Rd. just before 2 p.m.to check on the homeowner after someone noticed that the back door of the residence was open.

The officers who responded found the woman inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbours said a widow in her late 70s lived in the house with several cats.

An autopsy was conducted Saturday and the cause of death has been ruled a homicide.

A neighbour told CBC News the last time she could recall seeing the woman was Tuesday or Wednesday.

Police say the victim’s name is not being released pending official identification and next of kin notification.
