Dartmouth man arrested after Shubie attack

A 19-year-old Dartmouth man faces charges after a woman was sexually assaulted in Shubie Park on Sunday.

A 19-year-old Dartmouth man faces charges after a woman was sexually assaulted in Shubie Park on Sunday.

Halifax Regional Police said the man turned himself in Tuesday night because of ongoing "public pressure" in the case.

The attack happened at about 8 p.m. while the woman was jogging in the park.

Police said a man grabbed the 19-year-old from behind as she passed by him, forced her into the woods and sexually assaulted her.

Police said it appeared the attack was random and they would step up patrols in the park.

The suspect is due in Dartmouth provincial court Wednesday to face charges of sexual assault, uttering threats and forcible confinement.
