A Nova Scotia man is facing impaired driving charges after someone rear-ended an unoccupied police car early Saturday.

Police in Halifax say officers were in the area of Portland Street in Dartmouth at about 2 a.m. when they heard a loud crash.

Police say paramedics who were also in the area observed a man fleeing the scene after he apparently smashed into a patrol car.

A short time later, a 28-year-old man and his damaged car were located at a Tim Hortons parking lot on the same street.

The man was arrested and faces charges of impaired driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.
