Dartmouth bus terminal opening delayed again
The opening of the new $14.7-million Metro Transit bus terminal at the Dartmouth Sportsplex has been delayed again, this time until Oct. 1.
This is the second time the opening has been delayed — it was already delayed once until Sept. 17.
"A second delay is regrettable and we apologize for any inconvenience to Metro Transit customers who have been patiently waiting for this improved facility," Eddie Robar, the director of Metro Transit, said in a release.
"We know this terminal will be worth the wait."
Metro Transit said the delay is required to complete the accessible pedestrian bridge, complete outstanding interior building details, ensure all permits are in place and to allow time for the terminal to be properly commissioned.
If Metro Transit meets the new Oct. 1 deadline, the opening will have been delayed five weeks since the original date — Aug. 27.
Metro Transit said its bus terminal at the Dartmouth Sportsplex — just beyond the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge — is the busiest in the Halifax region, serving more than 23,000 passengers each weekday.
