Customers, staff can't stop robber
A man who robbed a Halifax restaurant on Saturday escaped despite the best efforts of customers and staff, police said.
After grabbing an unknown amount of cash in the 3:15 p.m. robbery at the Lacewood Drive eatery, staff tried to prevent the man's escape, Halifax Regional Police said.
And a customer who jumped on the hood of the car as the robber drove away remained there for about a kilometre before the robber stopped and let him off.
Sgt. Rob Lowther said he doesn't like to see citizens taking big risks to apprehend criminals.
"We certainly don't like people to put themselves in harm's way in cases like this," he said. "We're very fortunate that no one was hurt."
While he wouldn't identify the restaurant that was robbed, Lowther said police are confident they have enough information to bring the robber to justice.
