Crown asks for adult sentence in home invasion

The Crown prosecutor asked in court Thursday that one of the four young people arrested for a violent break and enter on July 18 be sentenced as an adult.

A Crown prosecutor asked in court Thursday that one of four young people arrested for a violent break and enter on July 18 be sentenced as an adult.

Four boys have been charged in connection with two home invasions.

In one of the incidents, an 81-year-old man was held at gunpoint and pushed to the ground.

The four then allegedly stole his car and moved on to their next robbery.

Crown Prosecutor Terry Nickerson said he's seeking an adult sentence because of one youth's significant criminal record and the serious nature of the charges.

"No one is tried as an adult anymore under the current legislation. The Crown simply gave notice of intentions seeking adult penalty if there is a conviction in youth court."

Two of the boys are being held in custody while the two others were released.

All four are due back in court on Sept 6.
