Child bitten by dog in Dartmouth

A child is in hospital after being bitten by a dog in Dartmouth late Friday afternoon, police say.

A child is in hospital after being bitten by a dog in Dartmouth late Friday afternoon, police say.

The attack happened at 4 p.m. on Belmont Avenue.

Halifax Regional Police have gone to the hospital to interview the child, Const. Brian Palmeter said.

"And we've contacted Animal Services as well, and basically the dog is contained at this time," he said. "We know who the owner is, and we're basically just starting our investigation."

Palmeter said that based on his information, the dog did not belong to the child who was bitten. The child's condition is unknown at this time.
