Halifax-area RCMP claim a driver was drunk when he flattened 11 trees and nearly struck two pedestrians Tuesday night.

Police were called to Riverside Drive after a car hit a median and ran off the road in Lower Sackville.

RCMP said the car took out some new trees and almost hit two people who were walking in the area. When it eventually stopped on some boulders, the driver fled into the woods.

A 23-year-old man from Beaver Bank was arrested a short time later.

The man is due in court on Wednesday to face charges of impaired driving, refusing to take a breathalyzer and dangerous driving.
