A Cape Breton Regional Police officer is facing charges of assault and unlawful confinement in connection with an incident unrelated to his police duties.

Const. Steven Joseph Nagy is facing two assault charges and one of unlawful confinement linked to incidents between May and August.

The 48-year-old man is due to appear in Sydney provincial court on Nov. 22.

Nagy, who has been a police officer for 23 years, remains suspended pending the outcome of the court proceedings.
