The Cape Breton community of Mabou is saying goodbye to Elizabeth Beaton, a well-known piano player who died last weekend at the age of 92.

A funeral is set for Wednesday at St. Mary's Church.

Beaton toured the island with her husband, the late fiddler Donald Angus Beaton, in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Their recording, called The Beatons of Mabou, clearly identified a regional style.

Many of her descendants are musicians, including grandson Rodney MacDonald, a former premier and fiddle player.

Elizabeth died Saturday at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
