Cape Breton musicians struggle with loss of friends
Dave and Donna McKeough died in a car crash Thursday
The Cape Breton music community is coming to grips with the loss of two close friends.
Dave and Donna McKeough were killed Thursday when their car collided head-on with another vehicle on Highway 105.
The couple worked in the local education system, and leave behind three children.
Their friends are devastated with the loss. They gathered at Lakewind Sound Studio Saturday, where Dave McKeough was scheduled to record.
They said music will be an important part of the grieving process.
"There's a great sense of closeness there, that's going to be a lot of help for people to get through this, is that they're together," said Joella Foulds, a friend of the couple.
Fred Lavery, a longtime friend and band mate, will help the family coordinate the music for the funeral.
He said calls and emails are pouring in from musicians who want to be part of the musical send-off at their funeral.
"We want to do that, it's important for us," said Lavery. "We want to celebrate their lives and music is the best way to do that."
There will be one funeral for the couple, but the details have not yet been finalized.
The driver of the other vehicle, William Kenneth Dove, 52, of Sydney Mines was also killed in the crash.
