Fatal crash shuts down part of Highway 105 in Cape Breton
Crash between SUV and truck happened in Melford; highway to be closed until 9 p.m.
A woman has died in a crash Friday morning in Cape Breton on Highway 105, say Nova Scotia RCMP.
Police say the two-vehicle crash happened between Exits 2 and 3 in Melford at around 9:30 a.m. A truck pulling a camper trailer, travelling toward Port Hawkesbury, collided with an SUV going toward Sydney, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.
The woman who was killed was driving the SUV. She was the only person in the car.
Her identity has not been disclosed.
The two men who were in the truck were injured and taken to hospital. They're expected to survive, said Clarke.
An RCMP traffic analyst is on scene and the highway is expected to be closed until about 9 p.m.
In the meantime, drivers going north are being redirected to Route 4 through St. Peter's. Southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 3 in Melford, through River Denys to Big Brook Road, turning right on to Riverside Road back to Highway 105.
