Canoeist rescued on Shubenacadie River

A Cow Bay man spent the night lost in the woods after getting separated from a canoe trip Saturday.

A Cow Bay, N.S., man spent the night lost in the woods after becoming separated from a canoe trip Saturday.

The 22-year-old was paddling the Shubenacadie River with friends. He was with the group when they rendezvoused in Enfield, but when they next met in Elmsdale at 8 p.m. he was missing.

His friends called the police and a rescue effort was launched by the RCMP, Department of Natural Resources, local fire departments and ground search-and-rescue teams from Halifax, East Hants and Colchester.

A DNR helicopter found the man at 8 a.m. Sunday. He was walking along the river between the two rendezvous points. EHS crews treated him at the scene and found he was uninjured.
