An eight-year-old boy was sent to hospital Wednesday after being hit by a car near the Halifax Shopping Centre.

Witnesses told CBC News the boy ran into the street in front of a city bus and was struck by a car coming up alongside the bus.

The woman driving the car couldn't see the boy, they said.

Amanda Thomas, one of the witnesses, said paramedics arrived quickly.

"It didn't seem like he was too bad," she said. "He was moving and talking and responding to the police officers."

Police said the boy suffered non-life-threatening injures to his face and lower body. He was taken to the IWK Health Centre.

Witnesses said the boy was at the bus terminal as part of a day camp. Police are investigating but said no charges are expected.
