Body found in Halifax landfill

A man was found dead at the Otter Lake landfill this morning.

Police are still investigating how a man's body ended up at the Otter Lake landfill, outside Halifax.

RCMP said they were notified about the body at 7:50 a.m.

Investigators are trying to identify the man and determine how he died. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.

The police have not said if they consider the death suspicious.

The facility was closed for most of Wednesday while the investigation was underway.

Garbage collection was also delayed in some parts of HRM because of the closure.

The areas impacted include:

  • Halifax central, west-end, Fairmount and part of Fairview neighbourhoods
  • Eastern Passage, Shearwater and part of Cole Harbour
  • Sackville and Beaver Bank area including Quaker Cr., Smokey Dr. near First Lake, Stokil Dr. area and all of Woodbine park

The city says pickup could happen later Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
