The medical examiner is investigating why a body was found Saturday afternoon in a wooded area off Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.

A man discovered a body around 3:30 p.m. in the woods and called police, Staff Sgt. Greg Mason said Saturday evening.

Police taped off the wooded area near the 200 block of Pleasant Street for hours Saturday evening so the medical examiner could investigate. The body was removed from the woods shortly before 7 p.m.

Halifax police don't yet know the identity, age or gender of the deceased person, Mason said. An autopsy is scheduled.
