Bear spray attacks in Dartmouth lead to charges
Three people were attacked with bear spray Saturday night in three separate incidents in Dartmouth.
Halifax Police Staff Sgt. Reid McCoombs said two teenagers first approached a 44-year-old man on Windmill Road. They yelled at him, then sprayed his face with bear spray. The victim then went after the suspects.
"When he tried to chase the suspects, he was struck in the head with the canister," said McCoombs.
A short while later, also on Windmill Road, a second man was sprayed.
McCoombs said it wasn’t long before they received a third report of an attack, this time on Wyse Road. The victim was sprayed and stabbed.
"He was stabbed, but it appears to be a fairly minor injury," said McCoombs. He said all three witnesses gave detailed descriptions of their attackers.
The K-9 unit was brought in, and two teens were arrested shortly after.
A 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man will each be charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
The two are in custody and are scheduled to appear in court Monday.
