Halifax fire officials say a home is still standing, but was heavily damaged by a fire that started Saturday evening.

Firefighters were called to the single-storey rental home on Bayview Lane, off St. Margarets Bay Road, around 7:15 p.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, according to division commander Vincent Conrad.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, flames were seen coming from the back of the home.

"They knocked down the fire from the exterior and then made entry and we spent quite a bit of time overhauling and extinguishing hidden fires," said Conrad.

"It's still standing, but it's in rough shape."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
