A Halifax man faces charges of attempted murder after a stabbing at a weekend party near Guysborough, N.S..

The man, aged 40, allegedly stabbed a 42-year-old man at a party in Sunnyville Friday night. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police initially thought the suspect had fled to Halifax, but he was arrested at a home in Sunnyville at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Sgt. Terry Miller speaks for Guysborough RCMP. He said the man spent the night behind bars.

"Earlier this morning he was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and was remanded into custody," Miller said Sunday.

The 42-year-old man lives in Halifax, but was visiting in Sunnyville. He will appear in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on Tuesday for a bail hearing.
