Attacker in women's washroom sent to jail

A 20-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail for assaulting a woman in a public washroom at a Halifax shopping mall.

A 20-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail for assaulting a woman in a public washroom at a Halifax shopping mall.

Antron Corey Allison Dann, 20, attacked a woman at the Park Lane mall on Sept. 14, 2009. He pleaded guilty to common assault in March.

While the Crown asked for a two-year sentence, the defence pushed for three months.

Justice Richard Coughlan also gave Dann a year of probation and ordered him to undergo drug, mental health and anger counselling.

He sentenced Dann to a month in jail for assaulting a mall security guard as he fled that night. That time is to be served concurrent to his one-year jail sentence.

Coughlan agreed to a Crown request and ordered Dann to stay away from the woman and the security guard, as well as public women's washrooms.

Dann is also banned from possessing weapons. He must submit a DNA sample.
