Assault charge against Halifax police officer withdrawn
Const. Daniel Kavanaugh was charged by RCMP in May
An assault charge against a Halifax Regional Police officer was withdrawn Tuesday in Kentville provincial court.
Const. Daniel Kavanaugh was charged by Windsor RCMP after an incident on May 4 on a walking trail in Lower Vaughan, located in Hants County.
RCMP said at the time that there was a complaint against an off-duty Halifax Regional Police officer from a 55-year-old man.
Kavanaugh, a six-year-year veteran of Halifax Regional Police, was kept on active duty after the charge was laid while there was an internal investigation of the incident.
The assault charge was withdrawn by the Crown on Tuesday morning.
