The only year-round employer in Parkers Cove, N.S. has burned to the ground.

Fire crews were called to the Nautical Seafoods Ltd. building at about 4:30 p.m., and battled the flames for more than five hours.

But after an exhaustive attempt the charred plant couldn’t be saved.

Melanie Robinson’s father built the plant and her brother owned it before selling it to its current owner a few years ago.

"I have a bird’s eye view of it from my house, I have a loft in my house, and I watched it basically burn down," she said.

"A part of history in our community was going up in smoke… now it’s just basically a burnt crust shell that’s left."

Robinson said she thinks the plant might have been fully stocked with lobster.

About 30 people work at the processing plant.

Robinson said the community is grateful no one was hurt.
