Two young men have been arrested in connection with a series of gas thefts in the Halifax area that led to fuel spills and the need for environmental cleanup.

RCMP say the two were picked up early Sunday after someone in Cole Harbour called to report suspicious activity in a neighbour's driveway.

Police say they found several gas cans and assorted tools after stopping a car.

RCMP say over the past two months there have been at least 12 incidents where someone drilled into a vehicle's gas tank and drained it.

Gas was either spilled on site or when unsuspecting owners went for refills.

The two men will be facing numerous charges of theft and property damage.
