A man charged with manslaughter after a fatal fight in Halifax last weekend is free on bail.

Jason William Whitehead, 30, was released from custody on Wednesday after posting a $5,000 surety. He must abide by a number of conditions.

Whitehead, of Duncans Cove, is accused of killing James Mattatall early Saturday.

Police found the 23-year-old Dartmouth man unresponsive on Argyle Street just before 3 a.m. He died about 12 hours later in hospital.

Police said a fight began in a bar and spilled out into the street.

Whitehead was charged Tuesday after turning himself in. He is due back in court next month to enter a plea.
